At St.Matthew's, the school motto is "Serve, Lead, Flourish". This motto has a different meaning for everyone, and for me it it evokes a special feeling from deep in my soul. When I think of Serving, it means two things starting a point of tennis and helping others. When I serve my comunity, I can do several things. It can range from going to the OPCC homeless shelters, or helping a classmate with a difficult math problem. I first think of outreach because it really feels good to help others, and even though it sounds cheesy, I really feel connected to them. It is similar to serving in tennis. You must start out strong with a powerful serve that is both fast and safe. This is similar to Serving in regular life, because you want to set a good impression and then be consistent and reliable. I like to think of myself as a Leader, but to be honest, I can improve in that sense. I generally try to have patience and listen to others, but as you can assume, it is easier said than done. I won't totally dis myself though because I generally work well and lead when I have a group assignment. Flourishing is much less about others and more about what is right for you. In my case, moving to St. Matthew's from public school helped me flourish because I got a better education. That said, I did flourish in Marquez too, because I learned social skills that I couldn't have learned anywhere else. Overall, The school motto of "Serve, Lead, Flourish" really represents what I try to do in my academic experience.
